Warum ist Knochenaufbau nötig?

Why is Bone Formation necessary?

Did you know that ten percent of our bone is renewed each year without any action on our part except our usual daily exercise? We don’t even notice this natural process, known in the field as remodeling. But what happens if no functional stimulus or stress is exerted on the bone? The loss of one or more teeth due to accident or illness automatically stops all strain on and exercise of the jawbone. The bone wastes away and your dentist will call this bone atrophy or bone loss. Periodontal diseases can also cause bone atrophy.

For you, the patient, this may mean that you have insufficient underlying bone tissue for a planned implant. Your jaw is unable to hold teeth or tooth implants securely. Your dentist will advise you on which bone reconstruction method would be best for you.
